What is the Commercial Recycling Scheme

Is all plastic bad? Certainly not. Plastic can actually save someone’s life - doctors use it to administer medicine and construction workers use it to protect their heads. But plastic packaging is an example of a wasteful way in which plastic is still being used. That’s why we’ve started the Commercial Recycling Scheme.

As part of the Commercial Recycling Scheme, we remove all the unnecessary bits of plastic packaging from your order (unless they’re there to protect the products during shipping or maintain hygiene) so that you don’t have to deal with them at home.

We’re constantly encouraging our suppliers to find alternatives to plastic packaging and are seeing a positive shift starting to take place. But these changes can’t happen overnight, which is why we’ve decided to take the matter into our own hands until that happens.

The plastic packaging we’re removing cannot be recycled through domestic waste management, but we have access to a commercial recycling facility. We make sure these plastics make their way to these facilities where they are transformed back into raw materials such as plastic pellets and reused, diverting them from landfills or ending up in our oceans.

Commercial Recycling Scheme

This matters now more than ever and we all have to do our part - help us do ours. Some manufacturers still include plastic in their packaging, although we are seeing less and less coming through our warehouse (hooray!). When placing an order on our website, you will be prompted to choose whether you want the unnecessary plastic packaging to be removed from your order. Your items will be shipped in recyclable and compostable packaging, so you don’t have to worry about your plastic footprint anymore!

Our compostable and recyclable packaging

The only time we will not remove plastic from your order is if this has the potential to damage your items while they’re being shipped to you.

A lot of companies talk about being more environmentally friendly, but to us, this is more than a marketing ploy. There’s something personal in it for us. Our headquarters are located in Cornwall, so we get to see the impact of plastic pollution up close and personal every day, and we want it to stop. We’re here to show it can be done.

Thank you for joining us in the fight against unnecessary plastic!
